JULIET KELLY (vocals) BBC LIVE RECORDING! at Jazznights on Sunday 7th December 2014 at The Cock Inn, Clare with The Roger Odell Jazznights Trio and Larraine Odell

BBC Radio Suffolk will record this evenings gig for broadcast on Stephen Foster’s programme at Christmas time. “Every now and then a new voice with a fresh attitude arrives on the jazz scene – that voice is here within the soul of Juliet Kelly”. DR COURTNEY PINE C.B.E. “Sweet, sexy and seductive… an absolute pleasure to listen to” IAN CARR.

Juliet discovered her talent for singing whilst studying for an economics degree at university Juliet Kelly 2but it took some time before she found her musical identity.

“Although many of my peers were recording albums of standards, I waited until I felt I’d developed my own sound and eventually recorded my debut album which was mostly original material. Although I love jazz standards, I wanted to share my own perspective of jazz-influenced music – music that can appeal to a younger and more diverse audience as well as to more mainstream jazz fans.”

In 2006 Juliet opened for the Grammy-award winning vocal group Take 6 as part of the London Jazz Festival at the Barbican and saw demand for her accessible jazz spread overseas leading to more sell-out shows in Germany, Greece and Russia.

Spellbound Stories is the vocalist and composer’s latest project and is a set of songs based on some of her favourite novels. Novels used as inspiration include “Vanity Fair” (William Makepeace Thackeray), “The Colour Purple” (Alice Walker), Veronika Decides to Die (Paolo Coelho) and “White Teeth” (Zadie Smith). The premiere of this new material will take place in London in May 2014 with a UK tour to follow in the autumn.
